Nevermoor            vs Drum Roll Please

Vanessa:
Nevermoor: I read Nevermoor last year and it was one of my
favourite books. It is good for Division 2 but could easily be a
favourite in a Junior High library.   Long story short, Morrigan Crow
is born cursed and destined to die. But at the last minute, she is
rescued the quirky and eccentric Jupiter North who whisks her
away to secret city.  He is part magician, part wizard and he wants her
to compete to be part of the Wundrous Society. (I don’t quite trust
him yet) It reminded me a little of the Tri-Wizard Cup in HP - where
a group of adults all takes children as champions and forces
them to compete against each other.  Not only does Morrigan struggle
to find out what her talents are but she also finds out that she is
still being hunted by the horrible people from her past life. It had
lots of action and excitement - it’s a series, second book out this month.

Drum Roll, Please: Well, it was a nice light snack.  The story was
good but not great. Best friends who let a boy get in the way, divorce,
LGBTQ, finding you passion.  A lot going on here all wrapped up nicely.
Personally, I would have liked it more if it was realistically messy but
every “issue” wrapped itself up quickly.  Meh....
Nevermoor for the win!

Norma
Nevermoor: Finished reading, got to the end and  thought
‘NOOOOOO!’ It can’t be finished already.  I wanted it to keep going.
Luckily the sequel will be here soon.  This book would be great for
Div 2 and 3 or for anyone looking to go on an adventure.  This
is a book that could hook students and the fact that there is a
sequel will keep them going.  Loved the book!
Drum Roll, Please:  OK story - simple formula.  Doesn’t hold a
candle to Nevermoor. Nevermoor by a landslide!

Deb
I’m going to make this quick...my vote goes for Nevermoor. It made
me laugh out loud a few times and I loved Morrigan’s sassy,
self-doubting but strong character. Excellent addition to a Div.2 or 3 library.
