The Weight of Our Sky vs. Patron Saints of Nothing

My vote this round goes towards Patron Saints of Nothing. I loved this book! I think a lot of teenagers would really enjoy this as an independent read (Gr. 8-12). It is narrated by Jay, a 17 year old boy living in the United States. He travels to the Philippines to connect with family and to solve a recent murder mystery involving his cousin. This is a very informative book that educates the reader on past and current government issues in the Philippines. I read this book more quickly than I typically read. It was tough to put down! It is the clear winner over The Weight of Our Sky, in my opinion. I found The Weight of Our Sky difficult to engage with and I think many students would say the same. The plot development was pretty slow. Onto the next round!
