It is our sixth year of pitting unsuspecting books against each other. Maybe they suspect, after all they are award winners or buzz worthy books. You get a little publicity...next thing you know you are going head to head in a bracket.
In round one we are lucky enough to have 43 readers representing 16 schools including a high school in St. Albert and for the first time in Smackdown history four principals. We read because we want our students to read and our teachers to read. We read because we can't tell what's right for our school without reading. We read because we won't always agree with other readers. We read because we like to argue. We read because as Richard Wagamese put it best: "All that we are is story."
First round blogs are due on November 25th. Join in the story...comment away, join us for round two or just sit back and read.
We wanted to create a way where we could read a few books, learn about many titles and have fun doing it! The tournament style reading of the Mighty Smackdown means that in the first round each participant reads two books, discusses both in a blog post, selecting one book to move on to the next round. Teachers are asked to commit to one round but most, if not all, continue on. We will read to the end when we will have only one book left standing!
