We are ready to launch Smackdown Goes Fourth! We have a record number of Smackers and are pleased that all of them are coming from word of mouth - the mouth of Smackers! This would seem to suggest that misery loves company and everyone loves a good book.
The rules are the same; 32 books step into the arena and by the Spring only one will stand. All of these books have been praised by award panels, librarians, editors, teachers and, dare we say it, Arlene and I.
Will the book In Darkness, which pushed last year's winner out of the Printz competition, beat everything this year? Will a Newbery Award Winner make it past the first round for the first time ever? Will a Canadian book move farther because it hails from the world of all weather tires? Will the first husband and wife blogger team ever on the Smackdown bring the battle home? Will Arlene let me claim her choice as my choice too? Will I start a sentence without will? Only reading will reveal these answers.
Thank you again to all our worthy bloggers, we look forward to your decisions and our indignant, happy, volatile remarks about them. Let the games begin!
We wanted to create a way where we could read a few books, learn about many titles and have fun doing it! The tournament style reading of the Mighty Smackdown means that in the first round each participant reads two books, discusses both in a blog post, selecting one book to move on to the next round. Teachers are asked to commit to one round but most, if not all, continue on. We will read to the end when we will have only one book left standing!
